One of Upwey Community Group's main aims is to connect with the community to determine what residents see for our community now and in the future.
Through consulting with the Upwey community, UCG is able to give informed input into Council decisions which affect our town, producing better outcomes for residents and our township as a whole. Community consultation also allows UCG to format, focus and prioritise its own planned projects and events in line with local residents' wishes
A community meeting, hosted by the Upwey Community Group (UCG), was held on Sunday 19 February 2023. For the 80 people who attended it was a chance to connect with Upwey neighbours, to share ideas about the future of Upwey and to learn about UCG. Thank you everyone who came on the day or completed our online survey. We appreciated hearing your ideas on what makes our township great and how we can invest in the future of Upwey.
Participants were asked ‘What I love about Upwey’ plus priorities for improvements.
The discussion was based around five themes:
Accessibility,
Community connections,
Facilities and services,
Parks and open space,
Sustainability and environment.
All the notes from the day were combined with the survey results to identify what the people of Upwey feel is most important to them. The outcome is summarised in the infographic below.
Some of the ideas to improve Upwey were community-led projects for the Upwey Community Group to partner with the community to deliver. These ideas informed development of the UCG 2023-2026 Strategic Plan that set our priorities for the following three years.
Some of the ideas were advocacy projects, to be worked on in partnership with the Shire of Yarra Ranges, Victorian Government and Federal Government for delivery. This report was sent to the Shire of Yarra Ranges team to assist with community engagement and inform future planning. Follow-up meetings on priority project ideas were then scheduled. This report was also sent to other tiers of Government.
